EXPLANATION OF THE ADVENT WREATH (Week 1):
What do we celebrate at the end of the month? [CHRISTMAS]
As we get ready for Christmas we do something at the start of our worship service. Does anyone remember what we do? {LIGHT A CANDLE]
How many candles do we light the first week? [ONE]
The second week? [TWO]
The third week? [THREE]
The fourth week? [Four]
And, on Christmas Day? [All Five]
Each time we light another candle we know Christmas is getting closer and closer. You can see and feel the excitement increasing.
Why do we light candles as we prepare for Christmas?
Candles remind us that Jesus is the light – He is the light of the world.
Candles remind us that Jesus is the light Who chases away the darkness – the darkness of sin.
Candles remind us that in Jesus we have the light of God's presence.
Jesus said:
(Jn 8:12) "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."
